The Beech Hill Pond Lake Association mission is to help improve, protect, and preserve the lake's water quality and fragile ecosystem. Your membership dues, donations, and personal volunteering help us take a wide range of actions to protect the lake, including:
What Does the Beech Hill Pond Lake Association Do?
-
Sample lake water several times a year, submit samples to the Maine Volunteer Monitoring Program for analysis, and recommend any areas of improvement;
-
Conduct periodic lake surveys for invasive plant, fish and other aquatic creatures;
-
Ongoing identification of stormwater runoff trouble spots and execution of collaborative projects to remediate them;
-
Education of camp owners and guests on how to help protect Beech Hill Pond;
- Respond to ad hoc property owner concerns about water quality, invasives, or other issues and work with whoever is needed to address the issue;
- Work with the Town of Otis, the Maine DEP, property owners, and others to address wider watershed issues (for example, managing a significant project to remediate runoff).
- Act and speak with a single voice in advocating for improvements to the lake and the watershed.
We are an all-volunteer organization supported primarily through membership dues, general donations, business sponsors, and government grants where available. But the backbone of our funding is you, and your membership dues (a modest $10) and generous donations are critical to helping us fulfill our mission. With a large and vibrant member community, we can transform our common interest in protecting BHP through concrete actions that also help protect and enhance your BHP experience and improve property values.
